Magnet Schools of America School of Excellence Award
R.W. Blake Academy applied for and has been awarded the Magnet Schools of America Merit Award recognition of "Magnet School of Excellence!" The Magnet School of Excellence is the top merit award category and is only awarded to a select group of magnet schools. The Magnet Schools of America (MSA) Merit Awards recognize top magnet schools nationwide for their commitment to academic excellence, innovative curriculum, diversity, leadership, and community engagement, with awards like "School of Excellence" (highest honor) and "School of Distinction" (second highest honor) given based on rigorous criteria and scoring by educators. These awards highlight schools that successfully implement unique magnet themes and foster equitable learning environments. The only higher award is a Nationally Certified Demonstration School #goals.
 
How did WE earn this award?
  • Integrating the learner attributes throughout our school culture
  • Dedicating time to Global Perspectives
  • Utilizing Kagan structures for cooperative learning
  • Integrating  high-yield Visible Learning strategies 
  • Implementing PBL (Project Based Learning)
  • Continuing to develop professionally (book studies, summer PD's, learner attribute PD's, etc.)
  • Aligning student tasks to the benchmarks
  • Making instructional decisions based upon diagnostic and formative assessment data
  • Tracking student data consistently and using it to make school-wide decisions
  • Consistently engaging with families in a variety of ways
  • Implementing PBIS to support students as they make positive choices
  • Encouraging our students to enter competitive artistic and academic environments (poetry award, essay contests, tag art, e-team, etc.)
We've come a long way. Let's take a moment to collectively reflect and feel proud of the hard work we've put into our progress. Do we have room to grow as a learning institution? Of course we do! We are excited to continue growing together to do what is best for our students.
